Step 1 of 4

What does AI mean?

AI stands for artificial intelligence. You do not need to understand computer programming to learn what it can do.

Start with a familiar idea.

AI is a name for computer systems designed to do tasks that often need human abilities: recognizing speech, spotting patterns, making predictions, or creating text and pictures.

Different AI systems do different jobs. One might help a phone recognize spoken words. Another might suggest a draft message from instructions you give it.

What is an AI app?

An AI app is a way to use AI. In an app that works like a conversation, you type a question or request, then read its reply.

AI also appears in other apps and in features that do not look like a conversation. Step 3 introduces a few conversational apps.

A reply is a starting point.

An AI tool can produce helpful wording. It can also misunderstand a request or make up a detail. A confident reply still needs your judgment.

For now, remember this: you give the tool a job, read what it suggests, and check it before using it.
