MiniMax

MiniMax M3.1 Flash’s weights are listed. Check the license and serving stack.

The official repository now lists the checkpoint. Commercial-use conditions and a substantial serving setup still need attention.

What changed

When we checked on October 23, MiniMax’s official Hugging Face repository listed the M3.1 Flash checkpoint, including 48 numbered weight shards. This follows the hosted model we covered earlier, when downloadable weights were still a future plan. It is a change in availability for an existing model. The exact time the files first became public is not established by the repository’s commit timestamp.

Read the commercial conditions

The published MiniMax Community license grants permission for non-commercial purposes and separately sets conditions for commercial use. Those conditions include displaying “Built with MiniMax M3.1-Flash” and sending a one-time notice; products or services generating more than US$20 million in yearly revenue require prior written authorization instead. Copyright notices and prohibited-use terms also apply. Read the actual license for the intended use rather than assuming an unrestricted open-source license.

Check the serving setup

The listed weight shards total about 250 GB. That is a file-size observation, not a VRAM requirement or a promise that the model fits on a particular machine. MiniMax’s card describes roughly 428 billion total parameters with 23 billion active per token and up to a one-million-token context window. An active-parameter count is not the amount of memory needed to store and serve the model.

Confirm the current integration guide, supported hardware, and usable context for the serving framework you plan to use. We inspected public text and file metadata; we did not download, verify the binary contents of, or run this checkpoint. Vendor benchmark tables are not our test results.

Our take

For AI geeks considering self-hosting, this makes the evaluation more concrete. Start with terms you can meet, a supported serving path, and a realistic operating budget, then test your own workload. Hosted access and downloadable weights answer different questions. Neither a repository label nor a headline parameter count settles whether running the model is a sensible choice for your team.
