An image becomes a speaking presenter
Google’s November 2 announcement describes uploading an image, refining the avatar, and reusing it within a Vids project. An avatar is an AI-generated presenter that can speak a script. [1][2]
Update, November 3: Google has paused the rollout. Revised release dates are not listed; Google says it will post an update when rollout resumes. [1]
Check your account before planning a video
The announcement lists personal accounts, but Google’s plan table says ordinary personal accounts and Google AI Plus can use only preset avatars. We have not tested which accounts receive custom uploads. [1][3]
On a computer, Google’s guide points to AI avatar, then Design a custom avatar and Upload image. Check whether those options appear in your account before promising a video deadline. Google says a missing feature option can reflect account access. [2][3]
Our take
When the feature is available to you, try a short welcome for a fictional staff training session. Use an image you have permission to use, including permission for a real person’s likeness. Then check the words, pronunciation, and appearance. Label the presenter as AI generated so viewers can distinguish it from a recording of that person. Keep the project so revisions are easy to review.
