What is rolling out
Google says Universal Cart is rolling out in the U.S. across Search and the Gemini app. Shoppers can keep products from different retailers together, receive price or stock alerts, see relevant promo codes, and get suggestions about payment-method benefits.
Saving an item is not buying it
The announcement describes checkout through Google Pay with supported merchants, or transferring items to a merchant’s cart. The merchant remains the seller of record and provides purchase confirmations and support. This is a shopping-organization and checkout announcement, not a claim that an AI buys everything autonomously. We have checked the announcement, but have not tested the cart or its savings suggestions.
Our take
Editorial analysis: one place to organize a purchase can reduce lost tabs, but convenience is not evidence of the lowest total price. Before paying, compare the final amount, shipping, returns, and seller details. Treat a suggested card benefit or coupon as something to verify. A useful assistant should make the decision easier to inspect, while leaving the buying decision with you.
