What changed
Google added clarifications dated October 16 to older privacy articles, pointing readers to current guidance for connecting content apps to Search services. This is a dated explanation of newer features; the sources do not establish that the underlying policy first took effect that day.
Which information and services?
For personal Google accounts, optional connections can let Search services use relevant information from apps such as Gmail, Calendar, and Photos. Google says summaries, excerpts, and inferences can support AI training and human review, and may personalize ads depending on settings. For a brief or particularly relevant email or file, a summary can be the whole item.
Google distinguishes this from training directly on an entire inbox or photo library. Google says the subset sent for human review is detached from the account and processed to reduce personal information. Advertisers do not receive access to those stores. These Search controls are separate from Gemini Apps.
Our take
Editorial analysis: before connecting an app, check which service and account will receive its information. Review Connected Content Apps and Search Services History; setting names are still rolling out. Google says switching Search Services History off keeps future activity in those services out of model training, except when you submit feedback. Disconnecting an app does not delete existing Search Services History. Keep confidential material out of optional connections unless you understand and accept the applicable terms.
