What changed
GitHub announced general availability for @GitHub in Slack and Microsoft Teams on November 6. You can ask the coding assistant to investigate a bug, open an issue, or prepare a pull request, which is a proposed code change. In Teams, a read-only canvas beside the conversation shows the plan, file changes, and pull requests you already have permission to view. [1] [2]
Check the conversation and project
The agent uses the full thread as context, and GitHub says that context can be stored in what the agent creates. Starting or steering work that changes files requires write access to every selected project repository. Other participants can add context. [2] [3]
Our take
Give the agent a new thread for a small bug with a made-up example. Name the repository even if the tool can pick one from the conversation. Before anyone approves the proposed change, check the repository name, read the changed files, and ask whether the same fix still makes sense without the rest of the discussion.
