Two different rollout claims
Google’s October 20 announcement says Gemini is available globally on Android Auto and in cars with Google built-in. Its optional Personal Intelligence feature has a different timetable: rollout starts on Android Auto today, with Google built-in cars following in the coming months.
With permission, the feature can use connected apps such as personal Gmail, Calendar, Photos, and Maps to answer personal questions.
Check eligibility before connecting apps
The announcement limits Personal Intelligence to eligible personal Google accounts for adults 18 and older. Workspace business, enterprise, and education accounts are excluded, as are the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
Connected apps are opt-in and can be turned off in Gemini settings. An existing enabled preference carries into the car. Google says built-in cars share personal responses only when your phone is connected.
Our take
Set this up while parked. Choose the apps you want involved and consider what an answer could reveal to passengers. A personalized answer can be convenient without being correct: check important travel details against the original booking or destination before relying on them.
Keep driving decisions with the driver, and leave complicated requests until you can stop safely. Check your own account and settings before planning around the feature; a rollout announcement does not promise every plan, region, or vehicle has access immediately. We have not tested it in a car.
