An October 8 notice lists today
Google’s October 8 Gemini API release notes name October 23, 2026 as the shutdown date for deep-research-pro-preview-12-2025. This briefing follows up an earlier notice for developers maintaining research workflows.
The deprecations page adds an important qualification: dates in its tables are the earliest possible retirement dates. The managed-agents table lists October 23 for this legacy preview. Neither source gives a shutdown hour or timezone, and we have not checked an account or observed a failed request.
Check the agent parameter
Google’s migration instruction changes the agent parameter in interactions.create from deep-research-pro-preview-12-2025 to deep-research-preview-04-2026 or deep-research-max-preview-04-2026. The deprecations table recommends the standard preview; the release notes name both options.
Google describes the standard version as oriented toward speed and efficiency, and Max toward more comprehensive research. Both remain preview agents. The Deep Research guide uses the Interactions API and background execution; review the current guide for request, completion, storage, and billing requirements.
Our take
For experienced technicians and small-business automation builders, start by checking the exact agent ID saved in application settings, code, and scheduled research jobs. Then review the replacement’s documented behavior, data storage, and costs before changing a workflow.
Where you have suitable access and budget, validate a short, bounded task and inspect its completion status, citations, and cost. A calendar reminder does not establish that every job has migrated successfully. We have not made API calls or tested a migration.
