Your first useful AI moment.
Let’s turn a few notes into a friendly message. No complicated setup. No need to get the prompt perfect.
1Give it a small, clear job.
These notes are made up, so there’s nothing personal to share. Read the prompt, then choose “Show me an example answer.” You can finish this exercise right here—no account, download, or payment needed.
Turn these fictional notes into a friendly neighborhood message of no more than 70 words. Use only these facts. Leave missing details as questions. Notes: Plant swap at the community garden; Saturday; bring spare seedlings; the time has not been decided.
Join us for a plant swap at the community garden this Saturday! Bring your spare seedlings and meet some neighbors.
One detail to confirm: what time should everyone arrive?
Where do I paste this if I want to try my own AI app?
This part is optional. If you already use an AI chat app, you can try the same request there:
- Copy the prompt above. Press “Copy prompt.” If that doesn’t work, select the prompt text and use your device’s Copy option.
- Open your AI app and start a new chat. Click or tap its message box, paste the prompt, read it, then press Send. On a phone, touching and holding in the message box will usually show a Paste option.
- Come back and check the answer. Keep the app’s answer handy and use the checklist below. It’s fine if its wording is different.
Your app creates a fresh answer. It may get things wrong, and it won’t necessarily match our saved example. The app’s own account, privacy, and pricing terms apply. You don’t need to sign up or buy anything to use the saved lesson here.
2Check the answer.
Use our saved example or the answer from an AI app you already use. Tick each box only if that statement is true. If the answer misses something, ask the app to correct it.
That’s the useful part.
You started with a clear request, checked the result, and kept the unknown visible. Those habits matter more than fancy prompt words.
3Optional: try one small follow-up.
If you’re using an AI app you already have, put this into the same chat, so it can refer to the first message:
Make it a little warmer and shorter. Keep every fact the same, and keep asking about the missing time.
Read the new answer beside the old one. Did “warmer” accidentally add a promise? If so, tell it exactly what to remove.
Using the saved example? You’ve finished the exercise after checking its answer. For a quick practice check, try Spot the guess, or pick another prompt below whenever you’re ready.
Prompts guide an assistant; they don’t guarantee accuracy. Use invented or non-sensitive information while you learn.
