What changed
Agent Substrate published its first 1.0 release on November 5. The software runs AI agents, programs that take steps toward a goal, in isolated workspaces. For instance, a coding agent can wait for a review while its work is saved and the machine it was using takes on another task. The agent can then pick up when the review arrives. [1] [2]
Check the setup you plan to use
The release notes list changes to networking rules and how memory is allocated to some workspaces. Google documents support for Standard Google Kubernetes Engine clusters running version 1.37 or later, with an exception for clusters on the Extended release channel. Google lists approval requirements for production use of Filestore, its shared file storage, in this setup. [1] [3]
Our take
If you run these systems, try one agent in a test cluster first. Give it a sample file, pause it, and see whether it can resume from that file while keeping the same network restrictions. That gives you evidence about the pause and access behavior your team needs before moving real work.
